Your sun sign is your ego and identity.

Your core.

Think of your sun sign (also known as "your sign") as your essence. This is you in a nutshell. This is your soul. This sign heavily colors your personality and influences your path in life. This is the sign everyone readily recognizes and knows the most about, compared to the other personal planets (like your mercury, venus, and mars). That's because the main info you need to find your sun sign is your date of birth, so narrowing down the month and day of your arrival in the world lets us know what sign the sun settled in. It represents your self-expression.

What does the sun have to do with anything?

The sun is center of our universe. It's large, blazing hot and has a strong gravitational pull, so your sun sign and the energy it brings make up a large part of who you are. Your sun sign is a major part of your identity. It's usually a source of confidence because it radiates so brightly. Think of the sun as this large sphere of light that everything revolves around. Well, that's the equivalent of this sign in your overall natal chart. It has an impact on who you are and these traits might (or might not) be more pronounced than others in your astrological makeup. Depending on your natal chart's activity (interactions of planets through trines, squares, etc.), your sun may play an even bigger role in your life, relationships, and path to understanding yourself.

"Giving us a strong sense of what we were born to be, the Sun is the brightest point in our charts, and this should never be neglected or forgotten, however deep we go or however dark we tend to get." - zodiacsigns.com

How does your sun sign affect your life?

The sun gives life. It's your ego. It's your creativity. It's your soul. It's your center. It's your energy source and your lifeforce. It's what you proudly cast to the world. It's ok if you don't immediately identify with the stereotypical traits of your sun sign. I've read you'll relate more to your sun sign later in life as you mature and this makes sense because you're on the journey of becoming more of yourself; who you're supposed to be. Where the sun falls in your natal chart -- meaning the house placement and what it represents -- is where you come alive.
